A reading that has gone strange is not always a broken instrument. It is as often a coating on an electrode, a blocked impulse line, a changed fluid, a loose terminal or a process that no longer resembles the one the device was set up for. So this service starts with finding out which — and only then decides whether anything needs repairing at all. SEMAC has a workshop and holds spare parts, so a great deal is resolved without the device leaving the country.

What it covers

Fault diagnosis on site

Reading the device’s own diagnostics, checking the loop, the installation and the process conditions, and separating a device fault from an installation or process cause.

Repair in our workshop

Bench diagnosis and repair in our own facility, with a functional check before the instrument goes back.

Spare parts from stock

We hold spares for the manufacturers we represent, which is what makes the difference between a repair measured in days and one measured in lead times.

Return to the manufacturer

What we cannot repair goes to the manufacturer through us — we handle the return, the correspondence and the tracking, rather than handing you a foreign service address.

Preventive work

Cleaning, inspection, seal and gasket replacement, and the small interventions that keep a device from failing in the middle of a production run.

A recommendation, not just a fix

Where an instrument keeps failing for the same reason, the honest answer is often a different instrument or a changed installation — and we will say so instead of repairing it again.

How we work

    Describe the symptom, not the diagnosis

    What the instrument is doing, when it started and what changed around that time. A photograph of the display and the nameplate usually saves a visit.

    Diagnose before dismantling

    On site where possible: the device’s diagnostics, the loop, the installation, the process. A surprising share of faults are resolved here, with nothing removed.

    Repair here, or return it

    If it can be repaired in our workshop, it is — with parts from stock where we hold them. If it cannot, it goes to the manufacturer through us.

    You are told the cost basis before the work

    Whether the repair is chargeable, or covered under the manufacturer’s warranty, is established and communicated before anyone starts.

    Function check before it goes back

    Nothing returns to your plant without being checked that it works, and you get a record of what was found and what was done.

What you receive

  • A fault report naming the actual cause — device, installation or process
  • A record of the work carried out and the parts replaced
  • A functional check before the instrument is returned to service
  • Where the device went to the manufacturer: the return reference and the outcome
  • A clear statement of what was chargeable and what was covered by warranty
  • A recommendation where the same fault is likely to recur

When you need it

The reading stopped making sense

A value that drifted, jumped, stuck or disagrees with the rest of the mass balance.

A device has failed outright

No output, no display, an alarm that will not clear, or a transmitter that has stopped communicating.

A planned shutdown

The window where instruments can be removed, cleaned, inspected and refitted without stopping anything that is not already stopped.

A device still under warranty

Where the fault may be covered by the manufacturer, it matters that the return is handled correctly and promptly.
