Chemical & Petrochemical Calibration

Chemical processing is where measurement error is most expensive per unit, because it converts directly into off-specification product, wasted raw material and rework. Reaction temperature, dosing ratio and reactor pressure define the outcome, and aggressive media attack the instruments measuring them. Documented calibration is both a quality tool and a safety one.

Recipe and ratio dosing

Component ratio decides whether the batch is on specification. A drifting dosing meter produces consistently wrong batches that look like a recipe problem.

Reactor temperature

Reaction rate and selectivity are steep functions of temperature. Sensor drift or poor thermowell immersion shifts the whole process operating point.

Reactor and vessel pressure

Both a process variable and a protective one, frequently feeding interlocks that must act correctly on demand.

Yield and material accounting

Raw material in against product out. Where they do not reconcile, calibration identifies the meter responsible.

Safety instrumented points

Measurements whose only job is to detect an abnormal condition, and which therefore need periodic proof that they still can.
