Planned island visits

Instrument Calibration in Crete — Heraklion & Chania

Crete operates as a largely self-contained system, and that shapes every measurement on it. Water is scarce and increasingly desalinated, electricity has long been generated on the island itself, and a tourism season triples utility demand for a few months. Add olive oil, wine and dairy production and the result is a mix of measurement points found together nowhere else — where reliability matters more than usual, because a failed instrument cannot simply be swapped from a warehouse an hour away.

Crete is served by planned island visits, deliberately batched so several sites share one trip — which keeps mobilisation reasonable for everyone.

Industrial zones we cover

  • VI.PE. Heraklion
  • Chania industrial park (VI.PA. Chania)
  • Ports of Heraklion and Souda
  • Autonomous power generation installations
  • Desalination plants along the northern coast
  • Olive mill and winery clusters across the island

Local industry

Desalination and water supply

Feed, permeate and brine flow plus pressure across membrane trains — the measurements that define both output and energy cost per cubic metre.

Autonomous power generation

Cooling water, fuel metering and protective pressure instrumentation on island generating plant.

Hotel and resort utilities

Chilled water, domestic hot water and pool circuits at a scale comparable to small district systems, with a sharply seasonal load.

Olive oil, wine and dairy

Mill and winery throughput, separation and fermentation temperature, and dairy pasteurisation records.

Municipal water and wastewater

Distribution input, non-revenue water and treated effluent for utilities operating under genuine resource pressure.

Typical measurement points

  • Desalination feed, permeate and brine flow and pressure
  • Non-revenue water metering and district water balance
  • Hotel chilled water and domestic hot water circuits, verified before the season
  • Autonomous power station cooling water and fuel metering
  • Olive mill and winery flow and temperature, verified pre-season

Common questions

Tell us about the measurement point you need checked

Describe the instrument and your plant, and we will tell you what can be verified in-situ, what needs a workshop calibration, and what it will take.
