Energy & Utilities Instrument Calibration
Power generation and district energy run on heat and mass balances, and a balance is only as good as its worst instrument. Cooling water flow, feedwater and steam conditions, fuel gas metering and heat-exchange duty all feed efficiency figures, availability decisions and emissions reporting. Small measurement errors compound across a balance calculation into conclusions that are simply wrong.
Typical measurement points
Cooling water circuits
Large-diameter, high-volume flows where a small percentage error is a very large absolute one, and where fouling changes the measurement over a season.
Feedwater and steam conditions
Temperature and pressure defining enthalpy, and therefore every efficiency number derived from them.
Fuel gas and oil metering
The input side of every efficiency and emissions calculation, and frequently a commercial measurement as well.
Heat exchange and district heating duty
Delivered energy from flow and differential temperature, where a fraction of a degree across the pair moves the result noticeably.
Protective pressure measurement
Instruments feeding trips and alarms on high-energy systems, which have to be proven rather than assumed.
