Instrument Installation & Commissioning
Installation, configuration, loop checks, FAT and SAT, and operator training — everything between a delivered instrument and a measurement the control room can rely on.
An instrument that is mounted and wired is not yet a working measurement. It has factory settings that describe nobody’s process, a loop nobody has verified end to end, and an operator who has not been shown what its diagnostics are telling them. Commissioning is the work that closes that gap, and it is the single point in an instrument’s life where the cost of doing it properly is lowest and the cost of skipping it is highest.

What it covers
Installation
Mechanical fitting and wiring, done to what the device and the application need — orientation, straight runs, immersion depth, impulse lines, earthing and cable routing.
Installation inspection
Where the instrument was installed by others, an inspection before anything is energised. Most commissioning findings are installation findings, and they are cheap to fix while the scaffolding is still up.
Loop check
The signal verified end to end — from the sensor through the transmitter, the wiring and the marshalling to the value the DCS or PLC actually displays. Every point, each direction, with the result recorded.
Configuration and parameterisation
Ranges, units, damping, alarms, outputs and protocol settings — HART, Modbus, PROFIBUS — set for your process rather than left at whatever the factory shipped.
FAT and SAT
Factory acceptance testing before equipment ships and site acceptance testing after it is installed, run against the agreed test schedule and documented point by point.
Operator training
The people who will live with the instrument shown how to read it, what its diagnostics mean, which alarms matter and what to do before they call anyone.
How we work

Agree what will be tested, before the visit
The point list, the test schedule and the acceptance criteria. Commissioning that is defined on the day tends to be commissioning that is argued about afterwards.

Inspect, then energise
The mechanical installation and the wiring are checked first. Anything that needs correcting is better found now than after the loop reads a number nobody believes.

Configure and check the loop
Parameters set for your process, then the signal proven all the way to the control system value, point by point, in both directions.

Test against the schedule and record it
FAT or SAT run as agreed, each point passed or failed on paper, with findings and corrective actions noted where something did not.

Hand over to the people who will use it
Training on site with the instrument in front of them, and the documentation left behind.

A new instrument that never read correctly
A device that has misbehaved since the day it was installed is almost always a configuration or installation issue, not a faulty device.
A handover that needs documenting
Contractual acceptance, a client handover, or a quality system that requires evidence the loop was proven.
